Privacy
What this site keeps, and what it sends where
Last updated: 7 November 2026
In short
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking tools, no visitor counter, and this site sets no cookies.
- The name, date and time you enter are used only inside the page on your own device. They are never sent anywhere and never stored.
- The site does not ask for your location.
- Everything the page needs (code, fonts, pictures) comes from this website itself. Your browser contacts no other service.
- We run no server or database of our own, so unless you email us, we hold no personal data about you.
Who runs this site
Moment in Orbit is a free, personal, non-commercial project by Arman, the maker of Dig Straight Through. For any question about privacy, write to digstraightthrough@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
The poster picture is made in your browser, and downloading it just saves it to your device. The name, date and time you enter are not sent to us or to anyone else.
Nothing is saved. The site does not use cookies or your browser's storage. When you close the page, what you entered is gone.
When the page opens, it reads your device's clock to show the solar system right now. That also stays inside the page.
What your browser asks this website for
Like any website, your browser downloads this site's pages and files: the page, its code, fonts, icons, planet pictures and a background photo. These are the same for every visitor, so they say nothing about the date you choose.
The website is hosted by Cloudflare, which receives your internet (IP) address and other technical details of your connection with each download. All this reveals is that you visited. Cloudflare handles that under its own privacy policy, for purposes such as blocking attacks and compiling traffic statistics. It mainly stores this information in the United States and the European Economic Area, and may access it from other countries where it operates.
Cloudflare may show us overall totals for the site, such as the number of requests. These totals don't tell us who you are or what you typed.
We have left out Cloudflare's optional visitor-measuring script. This site sets no cookies. The one exception: if Cloudflare's security checks ever question a connection that looks like an attack, Cloudflare may set its own security cookie for that visitor.
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising, no tracking tools, no visitor counter of our own.
- No selling or sharing of data. We don't collect any to begin with.
- Fonts and code libraries are served from this site itself, so your browser does not contact Google or code-hosting services when you visit.
Where the facts come from
The positions are calculated on your device from these free sources.
- Positions of the planets, our Moon and Jupiter's four largest moons: Astronomy Engine by Don Cross (MIT licence).
- Titan: our own small formula, built from NASA JPL Horizons data.
- Planet surfaces: made from maps by Solar System Scope, based on NASA data (CC BY 4.0). We wrapped them onto spheres and made them smaller; they are stored on this website.
- Background photo (the "Cosmic Cliffs" in the Carina Nebula): NASA, ESA, CSA, and STScI, from ESA/Webb (CC BY 4.0). We made it smaller and darker; it is stored on this website.
- Fonts: Bricolage Grotesque, Instrument Sans and JetBrains Mono (SIL Open Font License).
Links on this page open other websites only if you click them. Once you are there, their own privacy rules apply.
Your rights
Because this site itself stores no personal data, there is nothing about you for us to show, correct or delete, unless you have emailed us. You can always write to us at digstraightthrough@gmail.com, and you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
